Alejandra Gotera (b.1994 | Maracaibo, Venezuela) Based in Miami, FL.

Since leaving Venezuela, I have turned to abstraction as a way to organize and make sense of my world. My work transforms the mental noise of restless energy into paintings and drawings, where various marks represent an overabundance of thoughts, and colors become the ground where they take hold, reflecting the complexities of my consciousness. Influenced by the human mind and its ability to mold our experiences, I aim to comprehend and navigate inner turmoil and intense emotions with compassion.

Rather than arranging the chaos, I’m cultivating mental flexibility capable of reacting to life’s continual twists. As my practice evolves, colors are reshaping themselves or disappearing entirely. Isolated marks now float in states of ecstasy or become confined within compartments, waiting to be analyzed and processed later. This shift mirrors the mind’s fluctuating states—capturing moments of clarity alongside periods of deep introspection, further emphasizing the fluidity of thought and experience.
